Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure began its development on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and formed part in a string of franchise revivals by Activision along with other games from the Atari 2600 such as Kaboom! and River Raid, featuring sprite-based visuals before Kroyer Films were brought to assist in its creation by providing hand-drawn animations and graphics instead, while the lead platform transitioned from the Super NES to Sega Genesis. The Genesis and Super NES versions were both released during the 1994 holiday shopping season, and ports for the 32X, Atari Jaguar, PC, and Sega CD followed in 1995, with each one being developed by third-party developers and featuring several changes and additions compared to the original version. Years later it was re-released through download services such as Virtual Console and given a portable release on the Game Boy Advance.
GamePro gave the Sega CD version a positive review as well. They remarked that the new levels, full motion video sequences, and improved graphics all add to the game, which they noted has the same high challenge, realistic sound effects, and difficult controls as in previous versions.[68] Mike Weigand of Electronic Gaming Monthly commented of the Sega CD version that "Huge levels, excellent animations and nice sound effects make this one an action/adventure winner."[38] In contrast, Next Generation ridiculed the additions to the Sega CD version as unimportant. They concluded that "The game is not bad, just not great."[53]
GamePro called the Jaguar version "a fun, colorful action adventure". However, they commented that it is identical to the Genesis and Super NES versions and inferior to the Sega CD version (due to the lack of the "densely layered" sound effects and orchestrated music), which they found disappointing given that the Jaguar is a more powerful system and at this point most people interested in the game would have already played it on another platform.[69] Next Generation agreed the Jaguar version is essentially the same as previous releases of the game but gave it a more positive assessment than previous reviews in the magazine, concluding that it "maintains a feeling of quality game design from the very beginning, and is well worth checking out, especially if you're an old-school Pitfall fan."[56]

This is where your adventure begins as you try to rescue your father traveling through thirteen different levels and four bonus rounds, one of which is the original Atari 2600 game. In some of the levels you will discover a basic white scorpion which will time warp you back to a primitive time, back to the first Pitfall. In the present, you are armed with ancient Mayan weapons which you and your father have found in the jungle such as a sling shot, Mayan boomerang, and the exploding stone of Pacal which destroys almost all your enemies in sight. Stones are used as ammunition for your sling and are found all throughout the Mayan lands in small brown sacks. Your enemies are everywhere in the jungle. You'll have to fight spiders, snakes, monkeys, bats, butterflies, skeletons, jaguars, hawks, and many others! There will be ropes for you to climb, vines to swing on, spider webs to bounce in, bungee-jumping, pit-hopping and crocodile-dodging.
Hello Gho...ur thr creator of dxwnd and cd audio proxy...can u add support for pitfall mayan adv for cd music..the original game works with real analog...new computer mobos do t come with analog no more.plus dvd rs or bluelray are sata no more analog..thr solution is you adding the game sipport thru virtual cd audio? can you help .adding the game cd virtual audio?
Now I don't have the original disc and I assume you are also using cd images downloaded from the net. So in this case any kind of more complex copy protection requires a cracked pitfall.exe. Things are further complicated by the fact that the game runs from a temporary folder and deletes itself from there when you quit. It is very hard to even get the game to see and use an external music folder with ripped tracks in this case. Furthermore it might be that the game passes commands to wail32.dll which then communicates with the MCI api. In this case there might be difficulties hooking these calls maybe.
This sequel to Pitfall, one of the earliest platformers from the days of the Atari 2600, is a fun-filled romp in the vein of Indiana Jones that mixes lovely graphics and inventive action to create a thoroughly entertaining adventure. After Pitfall Harry, the original game's hero, is kidnapped under mysterious circumstances, his son is required to step in and rescue his dear old dad, which involves a lot of running, swinging and whip-cracking through some nicely realised jungle environments. Harry Jr. has learned a lot since his father was out exploring, and his skillset is greatly expanded from the first game, with climbing, ducking and a range of throwing weapons added to the inventory. While the story isn't anything to write home about, Mayan Adventure is actually a worthy follow-up to one of the genre's pioneers. It builds on the foundations laid down by its predecessor to create a new experience that is sufficiently different to avoid being called a mere re-hash. Gameplay is challenging and levels require enough exploration to keep you interested, with numerous inventive obstacles to keep you on your toes. Graphics too are attractive, with lushly detailed locations and a great variety of enemies. A nice bonus is the inclusion of the first game and overall this is one sequel which doesn't disgrace the memory of the original. 041b061a72
